The ISLab Group is the Information Systems and Knowledge Management research group of the Dipartimento di Informatica e Comunicazione at the University of Milano; it is led by professor Silvana Castano.
The ISLab group performs research in the field of databases, information systems, and ontologies, and it is well known for his research on semantic information integration (ARTEMIS project) and, more recently, for his results on ontology matching in open networked systems with the H-MATCH prototype (HELIOS project). Current research activity of the ISLab group focuses on:
- Knowledge sharing and evolution in peer-based systems
- Ontology matchmaking
- Emergent semantics and peer communities
- Multimedia ontologies
- Semantic information integration and interoperability
On these topics, the ISLAb group is actively involved in several research projects, among which the EU FP6 INTEROP NoE, the EU FP6 STREP BOEMIE project, the national FIRB WEB-MINDS project, and the national PRIN ESTEEM project.
